festival (without emotional festivities)

I've had the sads of late. You know it is bad when you are emotional registering zero just after landing a plane. Yeah so 3hrs flying time in total... and I'm out doing a climbing and descending lesson when my instructor instructs me to descend back towards Camden to commence a circuit for landing. I like my instructor, because he is Canadian, gives me honest feedback, knows his stuff and has patience to put up with me. Not necessarily in that order.

The Canadian: So, you are going to try and fly a circuit and even land...
Nickelass: Ah ok.
The Canadian: You will need to follow my instructions instantly because we have a lot of traffic and a smaller margin of error...so if you become overwhelmed I will take over without asking.
Nickelass: Ah ok.
[Insert large amounts of instructions and me trying to follow/understand them between 3000ft, a circuit, some traffic, radio calls and down to 1ft @ around 100km/h]
The Canadian: More brakes, more brakes.... then roll off exit [Instructor gets on brakes for me]
Nickelass: Ah ok.
The Canadian: [Makes radio call] So, you just did a landing without any real input from me.
Nickelass: Well, landing a plane. That was pretty fucking ninja.
The Canadian: Ah ok.

But it's odd, didn't really feel it like I usually would. Going all Iceman for the wrong reasons.

In other news I received some mail about the Sydney Festival coming up. For me that symbolizes a few things. Firstly that this year is nearly done, secondly that I should be due for my yearly trip to someone very cold with snow (always during the festival) and finally that I'll be ok with missing stuff at the festival, because I'm doing other stuff I want. Unlike sitting a home and wondering why I wasn't organised enough to get tickets to see some events.

I like the promo video for this years event, in large part for the choice of song. I like the song 'Blood' by The Middle East. More for it's lyrics then the indie thing.

Older brother, restless soul, lie down
Lie for a while with your ear against the earth
And you’ll hear your sister sleep talking
Say, “Your hair is long but not long enough to reach
Home to me
But your beard
Someday might be”

And she’ll wake up in a cold sweat on the floor
Next to a family portrait drawn when you were four
And beside a jar of two cent coins that are no good no more
She’ll lay it aside

Older father, weary soul, you’ll drive
Back to the home you made on the mountainside
With that ugly, terrible thing
Those papers for divorce
And a lonely ring
A lonely ring
Sit on your porch
And pluck your strings

And you’ll find somebody you can blame
And you’ll follow the creek that runs out into the sea
And you’ll find the peace of the Lord.

Grandfather, gentle soul, you’ll fly
Over your life once more before you die
Since our grandma passed away
You’ve waited for forever and a day
Just to die
And someday soon
You will die

It was the only woman you ever loved
That got burnt by the sun too often when she was young
And the cancer spread and it ran into her body and her blood
And there’s nothing you can do about it now

Naturally the wedding of the year was great. But not inclined to blog about that.
