last weekend i'd decided to do some early morning shopping in newtown for a ring for lb. as my bus roared past victoria park i saw dodgem cars, tents, outdoor stages and a poffertjes stall. ah i thought must be a cultural festival. i'll walk back from newtown to central and check it out.
on a side note, has anyone else noticed that the dutch manage to attach their poffertjes (aka Pannekoeken aka Dutch Pancakes) stalls to almost any fair type event they can. from chinese new year events (i shit you not, happened 2 weeks ago. you try eaching poffertjes and dumplings in the same sitting and in that order. you know it's going to end in tummy pains but it all tastes so good at the time!) to your local gay and lesbian fare.
yeh i didn't really seem to notice that one at first but when i got down there it struck me as odd, that even for newtown, there was a higher percentage of gay people then usual... oh and the usual hoard of fag hags. the point at which i reached the stall called 'puppys for poofs' i finally work out what kind of festival i was at. sometimes i'm so damn slow to the obvious.
gold moment number one...
was this nanna and pop selling home made lemonade. their stall was in between the hippy art stall and the fetish stall.
hippys + lemonade + leather = fun times for all the family.
as i was buying some lemonade (at $4 a pop, but i don't mind getting ripped off by old fokes) it seems the old fella was one of those old school should-have-a-straw-hat-on-'step right up' kinda traveling saleman. and he was loving it. i think he was re-living his youth, hippys, leather and all. anyway, as i was put my $1 change in my heavily depleted wallet, he points to a guy in leather (ok ok so 3 bits of stringed together lether and a g-banger) and goes
gold moment number two...
was a guy coming up to me and asking ever so politely with some serious flirting, if i'd like to do a sexual health survey for the NSW health department or something. i said;
he looked at me a smiled, like 'oh really', then he asked;
i swear it was so funny, the way he said it was that kind of 'everyone deep down is gay, and you've so been there honey but your secret it safe with me'. i felt like saying something cheeky like "honey, looks like i miss out by one year" but being the striaght 180 i am i figured it was best just to respect their day and be an observer. so my response was 'no' with a cheezy smile.
all in all was lovely time wandering around a lonely guy in a gay and lesbian feild day. i highly recommend it to loves of all types.

"you know what you need son, some lemonade! step right up"and the guy did. sold to the gay man in the small amount of leather for 4 dollars and his left arm!

"sure, but am i any good to your survey because i'm not gay?"
he looked at me a smiled, like 'oh really', then he asked;
"oh ok, so you have not had sex with any male in the last 5 years"
