IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take it or leave it

I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.

However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia.

However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.

This idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.

This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our National Motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, Because God is part of our culture

If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like "A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from.

This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you have finished complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our National Motto, Our National Anthem or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,
"THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".

What the hell was that ? Did you pass it out for a laugh or because you agree ?

Why don't you just don a white hat and seig heil? What a bulls**t article. I'm going to assume that the paper was probably something like The Telegraph in Sydney. That is, incendiary, bigoted and good for nothing but firelighting and the crossword section. (Incidentally, I read a column in the Tele the other day saying quite seriously that movies just need explosions, and that more explosions = better movie. I don't think that even needs addressing....)

I am so sick of people saying 'I'm not prejudiced ..but'. That's the intro line of a pussy . If you don't like someone / some group of people you haven't actually met, have some balls and say it. Admit you're bigoted or racist - if you think political correctness isnt important, you should have no problem saying that, right?

Australia has been built on the backs of immigrants. It's pretty selfish and short-sighted for someone to say that immigrants must adapt when so many of us are only a generation or two removed from being immigrants ourselves.

I don't pretend that multiculturalism hasnt brought problems to Australia. But it's also brought the skills and labour and diversity that an isolated nation like us needs to thrive. The anachronism in taking the view that our move to multiculturalism was bad is breathtaking. Can any of the people nodding their heads when they read the article actually conceive where we'd be without immigration?

One last thing I want to point to: this line " We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language " . Funny how this mostly points the finger of blame at non-european immigrants, isnt it ? There's no mention of french, german, polish, dutch, greek, italian or immigrants, who may well be as bad at English at others. It basically indicates to us that the author has a problem with people who don't look like him before everything else.

This article is basically a racist after a few drinks put on paper. It doesn't help us solve the problems that exist in our multicultural reality - it's just pompous windbaggery that wishes meat pies were available on every corner . Australia's immigrants are not just going to disappear, however hard some people wish or whine. Childish, jingoistic and contributing nothing, it's only good as proof that while the media is great at leading people along, it doesn't actually need to have any mental value. Absolute tosh.
